Casa Di Nonnas is owned by our patron Maurizio Mori and maintained by key members of the Mori family. Having lived in Sheffield for over 40 years, where Maurizio, Marco and Michela’s father; Moreno Mori (a restaurateur for more than 17 years), raised the family and taught them from the traditions and thinking of both English and Italian cultures. Both ways of life were ingrained upon the siblings at an early age. Maurizio explains that his mother, Leda Mori actively encouraged the family to embrace the cultural diversity of both nationalities. And so, with the family growing up around great Italian cooking and restaurants in and around England (and more specifically the South Yorkshire region), it’s no surprise that Maurizio followed in his father’s footsteps, seeking college education in both the UK (Sheffield) and Italy (Montecatini), to hone his culinary skills. Maurizio worked across Europe for 7 years in Switzerland / France / Austria and Italy (Montecatini).

Away from the restaurant Marco is a bit more of an outdoorsman. He set up and operates Gusto Cycling Holidays  ( www.gustocycling.com ) the company that he established to provide first class cycling tours and access to the most prestigious biking events throughout Tuscany.  Obviously Marco is still very passionate about Tuscany and the culture within which he was brought up and he writes of his business that he wanted to give people the opportunity “to cycle across the majestic, mountainous Tuscan landscape visiting all the historic cities at your own leisure”

Michela too has embraced her Anglo-Tuscan heritage, living in Sheffield until aged 18 when she then decided to move to Montecatini on a permanent basis. Since moving to Italy and having various roles of employment centered around the catering and accommodation she now divides her time between working and raising a family (being a mum to her 2 children). Michela works predominantly as an interpreter and teacher of English in Montecatini, both in Schools and for Private clients. She is (of course) a fluent speaker of both English and Italian. Being based in Montecatini, means that Michela is also around to keep an eye on the busy team of staff at the Casa to ensure that it is lovingly maintained year-round.

As well as the Mori family pulling together, Maurizio employs a team of local people to look after the property. Whether it’s our cleaner Damina ensuring that the accommodation is kept spick and span, Giovanni tending to the gardens or Luigi keeping the pool clean for you, you can be sure that the Casa is kept looking welcoming and homely at all times. On top of this, throughout the year our Property Manager; Marilena works at the Casa in the capacity of a Greeter. She will meets with all guests and provide throughout the property. Marilena will also explain to guests about the area and suggested places to go around the area.

Overall, the Mori family (as owners of Casa di Nonnas) and their team strive to provide first class, rustic, Italian accommodation to visitors from far and wide at exceptional value for money.

Our accommodation is situated close to Pescia, and Montecatini Terme, and midway between the walled city of Lucca to the west and the region’s capital, Florence to the east, Casa di Nonnas enjoys glorious views over wooded valleys and beautiful villages nestling idyllically amongst the hills, the scent of herbs and fruit trees filling the air in a landscape that has remained virtually unchanged for centuries.
